KIRJO Paint for sheet-iron roofs

KIRJO is an alkyd-based special paint with anticorrosive pigmentation for galvanized and light metal surfaces.

To be used as a protective coating on sheet-iron roofing and other galvanized and light metal surfaces and as a top coat on primed steel. Thus every paint coat contains active protection against corrosion.

The paint contains active pigments which neutralize acid gases of the air and thus the paint protects the surface against corrosion.

Direction for Use

Surface preparation

SHEET-IRON ROOFING AND OTHER UNPAINTED ZINC-COATED SURFACES: It is recommended that new glossy sheet-iron surfaces are left to be oxidized before painting until the surface has become matted. In normal weather conditions this takes about 1 - 2 years. Thereafter the surfaces are washed down by PELTIPESU Cleaning Agent.

When it is desired to paint a new glossy sheet-iron surface immediately, cleaning is to be done first by PELTIPESU and then also by pressurized-liquid abrasive blast-cleaning. Use natural sand of grain size 0.1 - 0.6 mm. Small new zinc surfaces (e.g. weather strips) that are to be painted by brush can be cleaned by PELTIPESU Cleaning Agent alone, provided that a brush coarse enough together with effective scrubbing is used.

Remove possible rust by steel brush and wipe off grease and oil with TEKNOSOLV 9550 before treatment with PELTIPESU Cleaning Agent.

Wash ALUMINIUM SURFACES with PELTIPESU Cleaning Agent and roughen up using appropriate methods.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: All flaking and poorly adherent paint and rust is scraped off. If the whole paint coat is, or can be assumed to be poorly adherent (e.g. paint is flaking in many areas), the paint is removed by mechanical methods or with paint remover. Bitumen paints and tars are removed totally before painting with KIRJO. The surface is washed with PELTIPESU Cleaning Agent and rinsed with fresh water.

Application

Before use stir the paint thoroughly.

The paint is applied by brush or airless spray. Roller can also be used, if the paint coat is thereafter smoothed by brush. Use airless spray nozzles 0.013 - 0.015".

Rusty, pretreated areas are touched up with KIRJO or FERREX and thereafter the whole roof is painted with KIRJO to a coat thickness of 40 µm. Two coats are recommended for urban and industrial climate.

Application conditions

The surface to be painted has to be dry. During the application and drying period the temperature of the ambient air, the surface and the paint shall be above +5 °C and the relative air humidity below 80 %.

It is not recommended to paint surfaces that are above +50 °C.

Thin the paint 5 - 10 % with TEKNOSOLV 9550 when painting surfaces above +30 °C.

When painting sheet-iron roofs, take care that dew is not settling on the fresh paint, as this will matt down the paint film.
